Have you met Riley? She’s 112 pounds of hairy love. And I do mean hairy.
I’ve made a bunch of scrap quilts to try to keep the furniture clean. I pull them up and wash them: so much so that they are now frayed along the edges.
I sewed a second binding to this ragged quilt and loved the result. Not only did I clean up the ragged edge, but I added a second layer of fun to the binding. Super cute. It makes me want to have a double bind on all of my quilts.
Riley is adorable!
The double binding is a good idea.
I also like the idea of scrap quilts for the furniture.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments. We think Riley is pretty cute, too.

You ended up with a mat and frame for your quilt. I like it too. 🙂 That is one good sized dog you have there. I bet he lays down wherever the heck he wants to. 🙂

This brings back memories of my mom. She would always say “Do you think you can live the life of Riley?” whenever I would slack off on my chores. 🙂

I have to say, The Life of Riley is pretty good. She adds so much to our lives that we pretty much give her whatever she wants.

Thanks, Peggy. I actually first saw it here: http://www.sewkatiedid.com/2012/08/20/double-herringbone-whole-cloth-quilt-2/ – I follow her & just love her stuff. But I never understood how she did it. When I was trying to cover up the frayed edges on my own quilt, it just sort of happened. The first (faded) binding was an inch or more wide. That’s what made it possible to put the skinnier one on and still see the first one. Still don’t know how Katie does it – but that’s how it worked for me.

Love the Double bind. I am totally gong to try it, especially on some of my older quilts that could use some help. Love Riley. Glad to see someone else’s dog laying in bed like a human…..mine do too, use the pillows, breath in my ear. I love dogs.

See my comment to Peggy above. I don’t know if it would work with a real skinny original binding. I haven’t tried that.
Re: dogs – well, yes. Love them so much. I swear Riley understands every word I say (but never argues). We all always laugh at her perfect use of the pillow. She gets it totally.
